AVIATION ENGLISH PROGRAM
Upcoming Course Dates
Why Aviation English?
Due to numerous aviation fatalities the world over caused by language miscommunications between pilots and air traffic controllers, ICAO decreed that all pilots and controllers must meet Operational Level 4 on the new Language Proficiency Rating Scale by March 2011.

Decision makers of airlines, air operators, and civil authorities worldwide need to establish an implementation plan for compliance of the new English proficiency requirements. Time is running out!
Objective
Comunicatus has designed a rigorous four-week program of study that focuses on speaking and listening based on solid English as a Second Language (ESL) methodologies and the ICAO language proficiency requirements. Study programs can also be designed to suit you or your company’s needs.

Our goal is to provide practical, task-based exercises that culminate in measurable improvements in functional communication skills required for the safe and effective management of international flights.
Accent Reduction
At Comunicatus, we get many inquiries from aviation professionals who have concerns about their accents. Intensive English language training specifically for the aviation environment is conducted in a small-group format in groups of 3 to 8 participants. The specialized training in aviation vocabulary, terminology and phraseology is conducted using communicative teaching techniques involving participant-centred activities, task-based learning, role playing, to name just a few of our approaches that are based on second language acquisition theories. Daily assessments allow us to monitor your progress.
Course content
Each teaching module illustrates in context aviation terminology, standard words and phraseology in such areas as Radio Telephony (R/T) practice. The program uses communicative teaching techniques that are student centered using authentic videos, audio, and readings that are drawn from recognized sources such as Airbus, ICAO, and FAA. Accent reduction techniques will be applied to each teaching module, which are designed to meet the requisites of each ICAO descriptor.

Participants will learn and practice all aviation terminology related to
  • Preflight procedures
  • Walkaround
  • Checklists
  • Communication with ground & ATC
  • Meteorology
  • Weather Briefing

The courses take a communicative approach to language learning and the content reflects the requirements of the six areas covered by the ICAO Language Proficiency Rating Scale.

Testimonials
Upon their (the pilots) return to us, we could see a noticeable improvement. The most striking change was the student's willingness to initiate and engage in conversation.  Overall their grammar was improved as well as their pronunciation.  For us the real proof of the pudding was in flight.  We gave each student a check ride upon their return and observed the following:
1.  More confidence
2.  Less time required to "translate"
3.  Better under stress
Overall we are pleased with the results of your training and look forward to further opportunities with you.
